BSX Rolls Out Promus Premier Coronary Stent in Japan

May 1, 2014

Boston Scientific has launched its next-generation Promus Premier everolimus-eluting platinum chromium coronary stent system in Japan, following approval by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

The device features “unparalleled visibility and low recoil, plus exceptional radial strength and fracture resistance,” the company said Thursday. “An enhanced low-profile delivery system is designed to facilitate precise stent delivery across challenging lesions.”

Yusuke Naiki, president and representative director for Boston Scientific Japan KK, said the “innovative stent enhances our portfolio of coronary intervention products, and we believe it will strengthen our position in Japan’s DES market.”

The Promus Premier stent system earned a CE mark in February 2013 and FDA approval in November.

According to Transparency Market Research, the global coronary stent market will reach about $8.3 billion in 2016, 60 percent in DES sales and the remainder in bare metal stents. The DES market in the Asia-Pacific region is growing at about 10 percent, a September 2013 report by the group says. — Meg Bryant
