PositiveID Ships Biological Threat Detection Systems to Aberdeen Proving Ground

Biological threat detection systems developer PositiveID said Tuesday it has shipped three of its M-BAND systems to the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland for continued testing as options in virus and toxin detection in U.S. military and allied personnel.

The testing is part of the Joint U.S. Forces Korea Portal and Integrated Threat Recognition program, which provides biological detection capabilities for advanced biosurveillance on the Korean peninsula. M-BAND — microfluidic-based bioagent autonomous networked detector — is being tested and evaluated for performance, reliability, maintainability, cost and ease of use, the Delray Beach, Fla., company says.

The bioaerosol monitor can analyze air samples for up to 30 days, producing results in as little as two hours. The results are reported via a secure wireless network in real time, PositiveID says.
