ALR Technologies, Nipro Team Up on Chilean Diabetes Trial

January 20, 2015

Richmond, Va., devicemaker ALR Technologies is partnering with Nipro Medical to conduct a large clinical outcomes study of ALRT’s Health-e-Connect System and Nipro’s True Metrix blood glucose meter in Chile.

The randomized, controlled study — at Hospital Clinico Metropolitano La Florida in Santiago — will enroll 200 insulin-dependent patients. Patients in the intervention group will use the Health-e-Connect System to collect data from blood glucose meters and securely upload it online, along with the Nipro’s meter and test strips.

The study will monitor average A1c reduction, adherence to medication and care plans, and patient and physician satisfaction with both the Health-e-Connect and True Metrix. Teri Sasse, global director of professional and clinical services at Nipro, said there is an urgent need in Chile and Latin America to find solutions that can curb the rising prevalence of diabetes.

Enrollment is slated to begin next year. — Kellen Owings
