Agilent’ Microarray Scanner Approved in China for In Vitro Diagnostics

January 28, 2015

Agilent Technologies’ SureScan Dx microarray scanner was approved by the China Food and Drug Administration for in vitro diagnostic use. The system measures fluorescence signals from labeled DNA and RNA targets and compares them for differences, the Santa Clara, Calif., company said.

Bringing microarray scanning technology to clinical quality standards is an important milestone in moving genome-wide chromosome analysis to clinics, said Richard Choy, associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. SureScan Dx’s high resolution and sensitivity provide high-quality data for analysis, he added, noting the scanner also has the ability to adjust for slide thickness.

The system comes with an autoloader and Agilent Microarray Scan Control software. It is currently CE-marked for use in Europe and approved in South Korea and Singapore. — Kellen Owings
