Hospira Recalling Lactated Ringer’s Irrigation Due to Mold

March 12, 2015

Hospira has initiated a voluntary recall of one lot of Lactated Ringer’s Irrigation in 3000 mL flexible container bags due to mold.

The mold is considered allergenic and could trigger an immune response, the recall notice says. The action stems from a single customer report of contamination in the bags. Hospira determined the particles Aspergillus kanagawaensis, a common, noninvasive mold.

Lactated Ringer’s Irrigation container bags are used for sterile irrigation, washing and rinsing. The affected lot, 40-0008-JT, was distributed nationwide in the U.S. between June and September of last year. Hospira said it is exploring the root cause and corrective and preventive actions.

Anyone with recalled product should stop use and quarantine it. Impacted product will be returned to Stericycle for disposal.
