AdvaMed Reacts to Device Tax Repeal in Congressional Budget Resolution

March 23, 2015

AdvaMed praised the House and Senate Budget Committees for passing a budget resolution that includes repeal of the 2.3 percent medical device excise tax. Calling the tax a “drag” on innovator devicemakers, Senior Executive Vice President J.C. Scott said, “Every cent paid toward this onerous tax is one that would be better spent on research and development, hiring and capital expansion.”

The effort to repeal the tax was led by Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) and Bob Casey (D-PA), and Reps. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), and Ron Kind (D-Wis.).

The tax was mandated in President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act and took effect Jan. 1, 2013. — Jason Scott
