Alikay Naturals Slapped With Warning Letter for Lead Contamination

March 28, 2016

The FDA has slapped hair and skincare products maker Alikay Naturals with a warning letter that takes the company to task for the presence of lead in one of its products.

Agency investigators determined that the company’s “Bentonite Me Baby” clay product — a sample of which it obtained in January 2015 — contained lead at levels of 37.5 ppm, according to the March 16 letter.

On Jan. 28, FDA investigators presented the firm with the laboratory analysis of the product, the letter notes, but as of March 16 the firm had not yet initiated a product recall. The agency issued a Jan. 28 consumer safety warning alerting consumers about the risk of lead poisoning associated with the product.
