Xtant Receives FDA Clearance for Spinal Laminoplasty System

Xtant Medical subsidiary X-spine Systems garnered FDA clearance for its Xspan spinal laminoplasty fixation system, intended to remove pressure from the spinal cord.

The device is indicated for use in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spine.

Unlike a laminectomy, where the lamina is removed, the Xspan creates an opening on one side of the lamina to lessen spinal cord compression.

Xspan will be available during the second quarter of fiscal 2016, and the company expects a full launch later in the year. — Anisa Jibrell
