St. Jude Launches DRG Therapy

St. Jude Medical has announced the first implants of the Axium neurostimulator system in the U.S. for dorsal root ganglion stimulation to treat chronic pain that has proven difficult to control with standard spinal cord stimulation.

The company expects the therapy, approved in February, to be performed in 59 centers nationwide following the launch.

This is the first therapy option designed specifically to stimulate the dorsal root ganglion in patients with chronic pain, according to the company. — Anisa Jibrell
