EC Finds Enforcement Against Falsifying Medicines Generally Satisfactory

February 28, 2018

Most EU member states are properly assessing penalties against companies for falsifying medicines, according to an analysis by the European Commission.

The Commission noted 26 of 28 states have changed their legislation to establish fines and penalties for falsification. These range from a maximum fine of €4,300 (US$5,295) in Lithuania to a maximum of 15 years in prison in Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia.

Additionally, 21 member states impose penalties for falsification across the manufacturing supply chain, including manufacturing, distribution, brokering, import, export and sale at a distance.
