Qiagen Gets CE Mark for its QuantiFERON COVID-19 Test

Hilden, Germany-based Qiagen’s QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 assay has earned a CE mark.

The assay measures the response of T-cells to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19 infection and helps to assess the immunity of individuals who have been vaccinated against the disease.

Blood tests that measure antibodies usually produce positive test results after vaccination, but they cannot assess cellular responses. The QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 assay can detect CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell responses, which allows a more comprehensive assessment of the immunity produced by COVID-19 vaccines, the company said.
