Abbott's CardioMEMS Heart Failure Sensor Gets Expanded FDA Approval

February 28, 2022

Abbott’s CardioMEMS HF sensor for heart failure has been approved for an expanded indication by the FDA for patients with early-stage heart failure.

The sensor is a paperclip-sized device that is placed in the pulmonary artery to monitor for pressure changes that indicate worsening heart failure. The sensor wirelessly transmits daily pressure readings to the patient’s healthcare providers, allowing physicians to modify therapy to stop progression to later-stage heart failure.

With the expanded indication approval, an additional 1.2 million U.S. patients are eligible to use the sensor, the company said.
