Beckman Coulter’s Diagnostic for COVID-19 Gets CE-IVD Mark

Beckman Coulter has received a CE-IVD (in vitro diagnostic) mark for its MDW-SARS CoV-2 COVID-19 diagnostic test.

MDW stands for monocyte distribution width, a metric of the body’s immunological response to bacterial, viral or fungal infections. The blood test analyzes the MDW biomarker to assess the risk of severe infection and sepsis in adult patients who arrive at an emergency room.

The MDW-SARS CoV-2 diagnostic test has 97 percent sensitivity and 96 percent negative predictive value, the company said.
