The FDA Sets Up QR Codes for Pharmaceutical Product Electronic Certificates

April 5, 2022

The FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) has decided to add Quick Response (QR) codes for “quicker and easier” verification of the authenticity of the electronic Certificates of Pharmaceutical Product (eCPPs).

This is the most recent move the agency has made in digitizing CPPs, which it issues for the export of approved drugs, licensed drugs or unapproved drugs that meet certain requirements. In December 2021, the agency decided that it will no longer or mail CPP paper documents.

These changes affect current certificate holders, whose certificates are valid for 24 months and then need to submit new CPP applications.

For those who don’t have phones capable of scanning QR codes, the FDA Unified Registration and Listing System Export Certification Validator is another way to view a certificate copy.
