Germany and BioNTech Agree on Pandemic Preparedness Contract

BioNTech has secured a five-year pandemic preparedness contract from the German government to supply messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines during future emergencies.

Under the agreement, the company will reserve manufacturing capacity to produce at least 80 million mRNA-based vaccine doses per year — almost enough to vaccinate Germany’s entire population of approximately 83 million.

“There is growing evidence that viral pandemics will continue to pose a public health challenge for years. This contract with the German government will ensure significant supply of vaccine doses to address potential public health threats through 2027,” the company said.
