Walgreens to Pay $683 Million to State of Florida Over Opioid Lawsuit

Walgreens has agreed to pay $683 million to the state of Florida to settle litigation over its alleged role in the opioid epidemic.

The company will pay $620 million to the state of Florida over 18 years to support Florida’s efforts to combat and treat opioid addiction. The other $68 million will cover the state’s legal expenses.

The company denied any wrongdoing or liability, but said it is “committed to being part of the solution” and that the settlement is “in the best interest of all parties involved and the communities we serve across Florida.”

The state Has earned more than $3 billion overall from 12 defendants for their alleged roles in fueling the epidemic.
