Tennessee Sues Walgreens Over Opioid Distribution and Sales

August 5, 2022

Tennessee ’s Attorney General Herbert H. Slatery III has filed a lawsuit against Walgreens for alleged violations related to the opioid crisis.

The lawsuit focuses on Walgreens’ alleged actions between 2006 and 2020, including dispensing more than 1.1 billion oxycodone and hydrocodone pills.

The complaint alleges violations of the Tennessee Consumer Protection Act and the state’s public nuisance statute through the sale and distribution of opioids.

The company’s “failure to maintain effective controls against abuse and diversion has directly contributed to the ongoing opioid crisis,” Slatery said.
