FDA Clears Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Wheat and Sesame Allergy Tests

The FDA has cleared Thermo Fisher Scientific’s ImmunoCAP blood tests for detecting wheat and sesame allergies.

The in vitro diagnostic tests, which identify specific antibodies, can distinguish between wheat sensitization and grass cross-reactivity and prevent unnecessary diet restrictions for many patients, the company said.

These new clearances add to the company’s ImmunoCAP products, which can identify allergic sensitization to common environmental allergens, as well as common food allergens such as peanuts, eggs and milk.

Sesame is being added as the 9th major food allergen in the U.S. effective Jan. 1, 2023.
