WHO Recommends Valneva COVID-19 Vaccine

August 22, 2022

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended Valneva’s COVID-19 vaccine for individuals between the ages of 18 and 50 years old.

But the agency declined to recommend the vaccine for older or younger individuals because of limited data on the vaccine’s efficacy in those age groups.

The two-dose vaccine should be given at least 28 days apart followed by a booster dose after the primary series, the WHO advised.

In June, the European Medicines Agency’s human medicines committee concluded that the data on the vaccine were “robust and met the EU criteria for efficacy, safety and quality.”
