Desktop Health Gets FDA Clearance for SmileGuard Resin

Desktop Metal has gained FDA’s 510(k) clearance for its SmileGuard resin for use in bite splints and other orthodontic and dental appliances.

The resin, which is both flexible and durable, offers an alternative to materials that are strong but often uncomfortable for patients or softer materials that are less durable.

Besides offering a blend of strength and comfort, the resin offers high impact resistance to teeth grinding, clenching, temporomandibular disorders and abrasions.

Using digital 3D printing, the resin can be used to manufacture night guards in as little as an hour and delivered to the patient the same day, the company said.
