Walmart to Pay Florida $215 Million for Its Alleged Role in Opioid Epidemic

October 24, 2022

Walmart has agreed to pay the state of Florida $215 million to settle allegations that it helped fuel the opioid epidemic in Florida.

The company has also agreed to supply 672,000 naloxone opioid overdose kits for first responders and law enforcement agents in the state.

This was just the latest in a series of settlements in the state this year. In May, Florida reached a $680 million settlement with Walgreens. In April, the state obtained more than $870 million for opioid abatement from CVS, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Allergan.

Under the settlement agreement, Walmart did not admit to any wrongdoing.
