FDA Approves Eterna for Chronic Spinal Pain Relief

The FDA has approved Abbott’s Eterna implantable spinal cord stimulation system for treatment of chronic pain.

The neurostimulation system delivers low-intensity electrical impulses to nerve structures using the company’s BurstDR generator that sends pulses that mimic the brain’s natural firing patterns.

The system is paired with Abbott’s Xtend technology, allowing the implant to be wirelessly charged with as few as five recharges needed per year, the company said.
