Arthrex’s TightRope Implant Gains FDA Clearance for Pediatric ACL Injuries

January 12, 2023

Arthrex has received FDA clearance for its ACL TightRope implant for pediatric use, including as a fixation device for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee repair, a frequent youth sports injury.

The product was developed for skeletally immature patients with one guide for pediatric patients and another for young adolescents. Both guides use techniques to avoid disturbing the pediatric growth plate in these younger patients.

Previous treatment options adapted surgical devices developed for adults and this is the first device specifically cleared by the FDA for pediatric use, the company said.

ACL injuries are common among athletes ages 10-29 and are typically caused by non-contact twisting, hyperextension or contact.
