Draeger Says NovaStar Face Masks Should Not Be Used Near Medical Devices

February 17, 2023

Draeger has issued an alert that its NovaStar TS Full Face Masks should not be used near any medical devices — whether implanted or not implanted — because the masks contain magnets that pose potential risk for serious injury.

The masks are used for non-invasive ventilation therapy and were distributed between Jan. 1, 207, and Dec. 31, 2022. A total of 909 of the affected masks were distributed.

Patients who are near metallic devices, objects or implants should stop using the mask and consult a physician to determine if another mask can be used for their therapy, the company said. The masks may continue to be used if patients or people in close proximity to them do not have implanted metallic medical devices or metallic implants in their body.
