Senators Introduce Bill to Cap Monthly Insulin Costs at $35

March 27, 2023

Sens. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) and John Kennedy (R-La.) have introduced the Affordable Insulin Now Act of 2023, which would cap out-of-pocket insulin costs at $35 a month for both insured and uninsured individuals.

This bill is a follow-up to a bill Sen. Warnock introduced in the previous Congress, capping the price of covered insulin products at $35 a month under private health insurance and under the Medicare prescription drug benefit. The bill was signed into law in August 2022.

Under the new proposal, private group or individual health plans would be required to cover one of each insulin dosage form (a vial or pen) and insulin type (rapid-acting, short-acting, intermediate-acting and long-acting) for no more than $35 per month.
