Medtronic MiniMed 780G System with Auto Adjustments Cleared for Type 1 Diabetes

The FDA has approved Medtronic’s MiniMed 780G system, an insulin pump with meal detection technology to provide automatic adjustments and corrections to sugar levels every five minutes.

The system includes a target glucose setting as low as 100 mg/dL, requires no finger sticks, and the infusion set lasts seven days, the company said. The pump is approved for patients seven years and older with type 1 diabetes.

Results from the device’s pivotal trial showed that users experienced 75 percent of time in the correct blood glucose range (between 70 and 180 mg/dL).

Medtronic plans to begin shipping the new pumps later this summer.
