Stuck Foot Switch Could Cause Unintended Radiation From Philips Imaging System

August 24, 2023

Philips has issued an urgent field safety notice for certain of its imaging systems for a potentially faulty foot switch that may lead to unintended radiation.

The company has alerted customers that the Allura Xper, Allura Centron, Azurion and MultiDiagnost-Eleva systems have a wired or wireless foot switch that may become stuck in the on position.

A sticking foot switch, the company said, “may result in unintended radiation exposure to the patient” as well as a delay in the procedure.

Philips says it has not received any reports of harm from this issue and has provided instructions to follow until the company can arrange to inspect the device, which may continue to be used.
