FDA’s Cavazzoni Says AdComms Returning to In Person Soon

May 9, 2024

FDA advisory meetings, which since COVID have been tackled online, are returning to in-person status, said CDER Director Patricia Cavazzoni.

Instead of meeting electronically, experts from across the US will need to fly to FDA headquarters for the gatherings the FDA uses to help it make decisions about drug approvals.

“We think that the in-person discussion is more rich,” Cavazzoni said. “We’ve done well over the last three years but now it’s time to have mostly face-to-face discussions.”

During an Alliance for a Stronger FDA webinar Monday to discuss the upcoming budget, Cavazzoni said it’s part of CDER’s effort to rethink the way adcomms are conceptualized and conducted.
