FDA, USDA and EPA to Coordinate on Biotechnology Products

May 13, 2024

The FDA has joined forces with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA) on a plan to regulate genetically modified organisms and biotechnology products for humans.

“The Plan for Regulatory Reform under the Coordinated Framework for the Regulation of Biotechnology” calls on each agency to review, streamline and coordinate their regulatory oversight of these products.

The agencies have identified several areas that require harmonization of their regulatory oversight: modified plants, modified animals, modified microorganisms, and human drugs, biologics and medical devices.
