Philips Again Recalls Trilogy Evo Ventilators for Power Malfunction

May 16, 2024

Philips Respironics has recalled all Trilogy Evo ventilators that are not on the latest software update (1.05.06.00) due a software issue that can result in a sudden loss of ventilation while the device alarms.

The 90,905 ventilators in the recall, distributed from March 20, 2019, to Feb. 16, can issue a “battery depleted” or “loss of power” alarm while sufficient power is still available, resulting in ventilator power down and no delivery of therapy to the patient, even though the battery is not depleted. This could cause serious adverse health consequences, including hypoventilation and death.

This is at least the third recall of the Trilogy EVO ventilators since 2021. Seventy-three thousand were recalled by Philips in March 2023 after detecting dust and dirt from the environment in the air path of some devices.
