“Artificial Pancreas” App Cleared by FDA

May 31, 2024

An artificial pancreas app developed by University of Cambridge researchers to manage glucose levels for individuals age 2 and older with type 1 diabetes was cleared by the FDA.

CamAPS FX, an Android app produced by Cambridge spinout company CamDiab, allows a compatible glucose monitor and compatible insulin pump to speak to each other, creating an artificial pancreas.

CamAPS FX was approved by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Care Excellence last November and is used by more than 27,000 people in 15 countries across Europe and Australia.
