FDA: MEDTRONIC DISK DEVICE IS SAFE AS SURGERY

The Food and Drug Administration has reported to a panel of outside experts that a Medtronic Inc. device used to replace damaged spinal disks is as safe as an existing surgical treatment. The panel is expected to review the device, titled Prestige, for approval at a meeting Tuesday. The FDA typically supports the panel's recommendations, but is not obligated to do so.
