MILLENNIUM OUTBIDS GENZYME FOR ANORMED

Millennium Pharmaceuticals has outbid Genzyme Corp. to acquire AnorMed, offering $515 million for the biotech firm. Early Tuesday, Millennium said it intends to buy Vancouver-based AnorMed for $12 a share, or a 21% premium over AnorMed's Monday closing price. AnorMed said that its board has agreed to the transaction and will recommend that stockholders tender their shares into the offer.
