Ketek Safety Warning (Drug Injury Watch)
In his blog, Tom Lamb reports on a "Dear Doctor" letter sent by sanofi-aventis in Canada about the safety, specifically involving "severe and sometimes fatal hepatotoxicity," of its antibiotic Ketek based on postmarket adverse event reports.

"In some of these cases liver injury occurred after administration of only a few doses of KETEK and progressed rapidly. The mechanism underlying severe hepatocellular injury is unknown," the letter says.
