India's Bharat Biotech to Be Approved Supplier in South Korea

January 26, 2005

Korea's Food and Drugs Administration has approved India's Bharat Biotech as a key vaccines supplier to the country. Company sources have claimed that the approval will create a "level playing field" in the sector, and the move could allow greater penetration within the ASEAN trade bloc for Bharat's typhoid, rabies and malaria vaccines. Meanwhile, the company is facing growing competition at home, as price pressure on its diabetes and other product lines forces it to explore new markets. Notably, the company recently signed a distribution agreement with South African drugmaker Aspen Pharmacare.
