Roche to Create Online Database, Registry for Clinical Trials

January 28, 2005

Roche will begin posting results from key clinical research studies online by the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2005, the company said.

In addition, Roche is establishing a protocol registry to disclose information about new Phase II to Phase IV studies at or before their launches. Both the registry and the results database will be hosted by an independent entity that Roche will announce at a later date.

Roche, which has headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, said the approach is in accord with principles of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations and the "Declaration of Helsinki," a set of guidelines for medical research involving human subjects developed by the World Medical Association. The company said it wants to ensure healthcare providers have ready access to study results and new information.
