Merck to Close San Diego Operations

New Jersey-based pharmaceutical giant Merck has announced it will close its San Diego research unit offering the remaining 110 employees jobs elsewhere. All employees will be offered jobs at four research units in the U.S., said Janet Skidmore, a Merck spokeswoman. The shutdown is part of the Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based drugmaker's effort to consolidate neuroscience research into two other research hubs -- they are in West Point, Pa., and Terlings Park in England.
