Senator Says FDA Urged Canada Not to Bar Drug

February 11, 2005

Officials at the FDA asked Canadian regulators to refrain from suspending the use of the hyperactivity drug Adderall XR, because the FDA could not handle another "drug safety crisis," according to Sen. Charles Grassley. Grassley, R-Iowa, said he based his claim on reports from whistle-blowers in the FDA. Robert Peterson, a director general at Health Canada, said in a statement that the reports are untrue.
