India's Strides Arcolab in Generics Deal With Germany's Stada

February 17, 2005

Medium-sized Indian generics producer Strides Arcolab has signed a deal with the US unit of German generics maker of Stada Arzneimittel AG. The agreement envisages development and supply of an unspecified prescription generic. No financial terms were disclosed.

The deal is significant for Strides, which in common with many Indian drugmakers is attempting to step up efforts to penetrate the lucrative US market. Its strategy of securing the marketing capabilities of "first-world" drug firms to improve access to developed markets appears to be bearing fruit, following recent agreements with Australia's Mayne Group and US-based Able Laboratories. The Indian company has a US FDA approved plant in New Jersey, US, and a further 11 manufacturing plants worldwide.
