Biotech Firm Vertex Wins Dismissal of Lawsuit

A federal judge has thrown out a class-action lawsuit against Vertex Pharmaceuticals. The suit claimed the Cambridge-based company offered investors a rosy outlook for a drug it was developing despite side effects that eventually led the company to halt clinical trials. The dismissal was entered in U.S. District Court. The complaint was filed in September 2003 on behalf of Vertex shareholders, alleging Vertex failed to disclose toxicity problems about a drug that had been a candidate to treat inflammatory diseases.
