India's Zydus Cadila to Enter Brazil

March 1, 2005

Brazilian drug regulator Anvisa has granted marketing approval for four products made by Indian generics firm Zydus Cadila. The company has a further five submissions pending with the agency, with all nine products launching next month. Zydus Cadila officials hope to enter Brazil's branded segment in September, with 24 products to be introduced by the end of the third quarter 2006. Anvisa also recently approved the Indian company's plant in Moraiya, near Ahmedabad.

Zydus will be joining a number of Indian companies that have recently entered the Latin American drug market. Fellow medium-sized Indian firm Wockhardt has a marketing operation in Brazil, and Strides Arcolab operates a manufacturing facility in the country.
