EU Agency Hopes for First Biogeneric Drugs in 2005

Europe could give a green light to the first copycat versions of biotech drugs this year, the head of the region's medicines watchdog said. The European Medicines Agency (EMEA) has already received three applications to market generic versions of biologic treatments from manufacturers. Asked if some would win European Union approval during 2005, executive director Thomas Lonngren told Reuters: "I hope so."
