UN Asks India to Ensure Supply of Cheap Medicines

Two United Nations special envoys have urged India to make "enlightened decisions" while making amendments to the Patents Act, saying such a step was needed to ensure that the world is not deprived of cheap medicines, including drugs used to treat AIDS. Pointing out that they have issued such an appeal because of their "deep concern," the envoys said India's role in addressing the AIDS pandemic has been "crucial."
