CMS Hires Fishman to Lead Office of Legislation

March 29, 2005

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has tapped Linda Fishman to head its Office of Legislation -- a move that brings her back to the agency after a three-year absence.

CMS Deputy Director of Legislation Don Johnson confirmed Fishman's hiring in a memo to Capitol Hill staff. She replaces Rob Foreman, who recently left the agency.

Fishman served as a senior policy adviser to former CMS Administrator Tom Scully until early 2002, when she left the agency to become health policy director for the Senate Finance Committee. During her time with the committee, Fishman was instrumental in drafting the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003. She also served as an aide to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Thomas (R-Calif.).

Fishman spent the past year in the private sector, where she worked as a senior health policy adviser at Washington, D.C.-based law firm Hogan & Hartson.
