Sachdev Resigns Post as FDA Deputy Commissioner for Policy

March 31, 2005

Amit Sachdev, one of the FDA's top policy officials, has resigned from the agency, acting FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford announced.

Sachdev was named deputy commissioner for policy in February 2004 -- a promotion that came as part of a reorganization of senior leadership that created three deputy commissioner positions. Sachdev joined the agency in October 2002 as senior associate commissioner for legislative affairs.

Crawford called Sachdev "a principled, hard-working and gifted leader," and said he will miss Sachdev's "wise counsel and steadfast support." Sachdev was responsible for numerous policy achievements during his time at the FDA, including establishing programs to enhance public access to innovative medical products and improve pediatric medicine.

The agency has not yet selected Sachdev's replacement, an FDA spokesperson said.
