Flagship Scottish Biotech on Brink of Collapse

One of the leading lights of Scotland's volatile biotech sector is facing collapse, after a key backer pulled out of a new funding round. ExpressOn BioSystems, which has pioneered research into "blocking" defective human genes, will crash into insolvency next week without a fresh cash injection. The Scottish Enterprise-backed firm, based at the Roslin Biocentre in Midlothian, has already begun moves to wind itself up. A creditors' meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday.
