Nationwide Recall of Moi-Stir Oral Swabsticks
May 2, 2005
The FDA and Kingswood Laboratories have notified healthcare professionals via letter of a nationwide recall of Moi-Stir oral swabsticks, due to the detection of molds (including Aspergillus and Penicillium) in certain lots, according to an alert sent from MedWatch, the FDA's safety information and adverse event reporting system. Use of the contaminated products can result in respiratory infections. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the swabsticks and to return them to the point of purchase. Physicians and dentists should consider screening previous swabstick users who are immunocompromised or otherwise at high risk of infection.
