Shire Officially Opens HQ With Nearly

In the 12 months since choosing to locate its U.S headquarters in Wayne, Pa., Shire Pharmaceuticals has grown from 10 employees to nearly 500 at the Chester County site. Shire officials said the company now contributes $50 million in payroll and $2.2 million in state and local taxes annually. On Thursday, Shire CEO Matt Emmens was joined by Gov. Ed Rendell and state Sen. Robert J. Thompson for an official opening of its 220,000-square-foot headquarters -- consisting of two adjacent three-story buildings -- at the Chesterbrook Corporate Center.
