PHARMACEUTICAL UNIT GUTTED AT VERNA

August 15, 2005

A fire broke out in a major pharmaceutical unit at the Verna Industrial Estate, causing an estimated damage of Rs 1.25 crores. According to fire brigade sources, the fire broke out yesterday, due to electrical defects in the instrumentation room of the pharmaceutical company that led to a short circuit in the air conditioner. The fire was spotted by an employee working on the night shift, who tried to extinguish it but the dense smoke engulfed the entire room damaging costly items such as precision equipment for instrumental and quality control imported from Germany.
