NEW REIMBURSEMENT CODE FOR GENZYME'S OSOM TRICHOMONAS RAPID TEST

January 11, 2007

Genzyme said this week its OSOM Trichomonas Rapid Test has a new, specific current procedural terminology (CPT) code, which will allow for easier reimbursement.

The point-of-care test previously used a generic CPT code that included other immunoassay diagnostics, the firm said. The test helps diagnose trichomonas infection, which is a frequent cause of vaginitis or vaginosis and is the most common nonviral sexually transmitted disease in the world, the firm said.

The test uses immunochromatographic dipstick technology that detects pathogenic antigens directly from vaginal swabs.
